Le Detroit Scholarship

We believe that college and university students in business studies and French language studies provide the foundation for the future growth of French-American business relations.

What is Le Detroit Scholarship?

The purpose of the Le Détroit Scholarship is to assist college and university students in Michigan who study business or business related courses and French language studies and who plan to combine French and business in their future career plans. The award is intended to help fund an internship, work-study, or other educational experience in France.

We are proud to advance the cause of trade and commerce between the United States and France through our program. It demonstrates our commitment to our broad goal of improving French American trade as well as to contributing to our community by helping Michigan students further their French studies and business experience.

How does it work?

Our scholarships start at $1,500, and are based on merit, need, and the career goals of the student.

We award scholarships to students who:

  • are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree at a college or university located in Michigan;
  • study business or business related courses and French language studies;
  • have decided to study or complete an internship in France and can submit proof of acceptance into the program by the time the award is to be disbursed;
  • demonstrate academic excellence;
  • demonstrate financial need.

To apply, please send the following documents:

  • a two page, double-spaced essay stating why you believe you are deserving of the scholarship. You must describe your study or internship plans, future career goals, and include demonstrated financial need. Your letter must also state that you are willing to provide 10-20 hours of volunteer service to the FACC;
  • a detailed budget of the cost to attend the program (see attached form)
  • a letter of recommendation from your professor or advisor stating the reasons why you should be considered for this scholarship;
  • an official transcript from your college or university;
    proof of acceptance into the study abroad or internship program in France — if the application is in process, be aware this will be needed before funds can be disbursed if an award is granted;
  • (optional) a cover letter including any other information you believe is important for us to know that you did not include in your essay.

Testimonials

I’m very grateful for Le Detroit Scholarship–it was such a big help when I went abroad! It actually inspired me to go into a career in international education, and I now work at a study abroad company. I’m an Assistant Program Manager so I work with students throughout their application process for their semester or summer abroad, and I absolutely love it!

Receiving Le Detroit Scholarship allowed me to spend a fall semester at Sciences Po Paris and to lead the intern team for the first HEC Paris Youth Leadership. I was able to practice my French language skills to engage in this rigorous and prestigious academic environment.

I am just very thankful to have been chosen. Studying abroad has always been an experience I wanted to have and that I did with the help of Le Detroit Scholarship. I learnt so much about French culture, language, and the joys and struggled of living abroad.

Are a student planning to combine French and business in your future career plans? You may be eligible to receive Le Detroit Scholarship!
